Gochugaru Girl has a cold.
This is quite unusual and I am not happy about it.
The thing is…I am not often unhappy. I can always find something to be happy about, but after a weekend of headaches and now a runny nose and sore throat…well, I am slightly grumpy.
Niece Number 2, who is on half-term break from boarding school, asked if I had any remedies for colds. I said there was no such thing in our house as we usually just sit through it. She gave me a slightly strange look which said “sit through it?…you mean, more like suffer through it…”. But she was verbally polite and her actual words were “Oh! in Hong Kong we have remedies for everything“.
This left me feeling I had to do something, so I turned to what I always turn to in such situations: honey and lemon. This time round, I even added some ginger.
This is not a cure for colds. I am not delving into research but I don’t think there is a cure for the common cold. So just a hot drink to relieve the symptoms and some writing up of notes (I was in KL for a wedding the week before) should get me through the worst of it.
I did also think I should pop out to buy some Korean honey citron tea (꿀 유자차) but that may be an errand for NN2 later in the day.
For the Honey and Lemon Drink:
1 large tablespoon honey
Juice of ½ – 1 lemon
small cube of ginger, peeled and crushed
200 – 250 ml hot water
How to Make:
Place the honey and ginger in a large cup or mug.
Add the hot water and stir.
Add the lemon juice to taste: you might like more or less depending on how sharp or sweet you like your drink.
