34.8 C in Kew

It is not often that I am in the right place at the right time when a historical event takes place. Yesterday was such a day as the UK recorded its hottest day in May since 1944. At 34.8 C recorded in Kew Gardens, this surpassed the previous record by 2 C. That is the record until broken again, but for 24 hours at least it was fun to say ‘I was there’.

Another headline: Largest-ever Henry Moore exhibition opens at Kew. Photos of some of the sculptures from our walk around Kew below. I had seen some of Mr Moore’s works in other galleries but the Kew setting is a natural and expansive space in which to display these large sculptures.

In the next post there I will share photos of some of the plants we saw during this visit. By then there may well be a new record for the temperature in May.
