Sculpture of a pine cone by Floyd Elzinga installed at Oeno’s Sculpture Garden at Huff Estates Winery
[This is a continuation of my Canada October 2025 posts]
The world is in disarray: societal breakdown, economic poverty, climate chaos, civil wars and above all, imperialist leaders who are a law unto themselves. Looking back at our Canada trip, for a while at least, that world was quite far away from my reality. I am back in London and, as you can see from the infrequency of the posts, life has returned to normal hectic and demanding.
Today’s post is on our road trip from Toronto to Ottawa. We start off at Tim Horton’s, visit the Big Apple (not NYC but a big apple pie factory), take in a beautiful sculpture park, have a post-lunch walk along the shore, share a taco dinner with family then bed down in Gatineau which is across the river from Canada’s capital Ottawa.
There was a lot of driving involved, heroically undertaken by Toronto Cousin. I am still not used to such long drives but am getting my head round it, so we can do a similar English road trip when our Canada cousins visit us.
The Big Apple has any type of food product you can think of made with apples, however they are famous for their pies

A visit to Oeno Gallery’s Sculpture Garden at Huff Estates Winery was great for stretching our legs and opening our eyes to the beauty of small things made large. A selection from the 2025 exhibition is below.

From Oeno Gallery we headed south for lunch in Wellington, then took a short walk along the waterfront at the Drake Devonshire Hotel

In the next post we take a walk around Gatineau Park and have a first look at Ottawa in the daylight. Canada cannot be hurried and I feel my pulse slowing down even whilst writing up these travel notes.
