Singapore: Gardens By The Bay (PM)

(This is a continuation from the previous post)

The wonderful thing about Singapore, and all major cities, is that there is always something to do at any hour of the day. Having grown up in Kuala Lumpur and having then lived in London for nearly 40 years, I would find it difficult to move to a small town. Sometimes my city friends and I entertain a fledgling thought that we might retire to the countryside, but then the reality of shops closing at 5pm kicks that idea straight into the wilderness.

Our family had a very short and intense trip to Singapore in March, to attend a family wedding. On our final night we managed an outing to see Gardens by the Bay’s Supertrees. In fact it is sensible to visit in the evening when the temperature is marginally cooler. Admission to the Supertree Grove is free, and you can visit from 5am until 2am. If you do not mind walking in semi-darkness, Bay East Garden is open 24 hour daily.

Alighting at Bayfront MRT, there is a grand view looking back to Marina Bay Sands as you cross the bridge into the Gardens. MBS is the Singapore equivalent of Kuala Lumpur’s Petronas Twin Towers i.e. the most photographed building (I would say thing) in the whole of Singapore. But this is Singapore, and they built three towers to trump our two, then they topped it with an infinity swimming pool that straddles all three towers.

During the same trip we also visited the Singapore Botanic Gardens, and I shall feature some photos in a future post. There is a lot of paperwork and some home improvement projects I need to take care of before my next trip to KL, so I think cooking will have to take a back seat. Instead of recipes, I will try to post more about our March trip (including a stay in Pangkor Laut Island) over the month of August. Now that I think about it, there is also one more post on Berlin to write up.
